Behind the Scenes

About Mieko Mochizuki Swartz
Mieko has always been interested in communication, whether it was through writing books and magazine columns, localizing video games, making websites, or writing scripts for TV animation.
Since moving to lovely San Francisco from her native Tokyo with her American husband in 2001, she has been using more and more images in addition to words to get her points across. The way she sees it, this is not at all a change. She is still doing the exact same things she loves and is good at.
Mieko is a graduate of Keio University in Tokyo, and the Multimedia Studies Program at San Francisco State University.
About This Site
Mieko's Sideshow features some of her works mostly done between 2004 and 2005.
Adobe Illustrator is the main software used for creating these images. Adobe GoLive was used to construct the website.
For those of you wondering, no, making digital pictures doesn't mean she gets to tell the software to draw or paint automatically. She paints them, line by line, color patch by color patch, just like a traditional artist would, with digital tools. It takes a long, long time, but it's faster than embroidery...
Well, it better be.
