Bigfoot/Sasquatch
This large, bipedal, ape-like creature is said to have been seen in the mountains of the Pacific Northwest and Canada. Recent sightings are often quickly debunked as hoaxes, but Native Americans have told stories of similar creatures in their legends for many generations, and there are many names for them.
The Cherokee name for the entity is Tsul 'Kalu. One story I read about Tsul 'Kalu had him visit a human girl with gifts of deer, which delighted the girl and her mother, and eventually led to their happy marriage.
Native Americans have a lot of interesting stories that describe marriages between humans and other creatures. The Japanese, despite our claim to "live in harmony with nature," don't. Our stories most often have marriages fall apart the moment the human learns the monstrous nature of the spouse.
This makes me wonder if the Japanese are, as a tradition, narrow-minded and less accepting of the unknown than the Native Americans. Probably.
